Program Pillars
BGC Ottawa has four main program pillars – each equally important in helping young people learn social skills and become strong community members.
We Acknowledge
BGC Ottawa acknowledges that Ottawa is built on un-ceded and un-surrendered Algonquin Anishinaabe territory. The Peoples of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation have lived on this territory for millennia. Their culture and presence have nurtured and continue to nurture this Land. BGC Ottawa honours the Peoples and Land of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. BGC Ottawa honours all First Nations, Inuit, Métis and all Indigenous Peoples and their valuable past and present contributions to this Land known as Turtle Island.
As an organization, BGC Ottawa is committed to embracing diversity and promoting equity and inclusion in order to create a welcoming, bias-free environment for all. This process is a journey as we open our minds and grow our knowledge in servitude that is mindful, anti-racist and inclusive of all. We are motivated by the passion to provide a safe, welcoming and enriching space where the children and youth we serve can learn and flourish.
BGC Ottawa’s commitment through its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion / Anti-Black Racism (EDI/ABR) Action Plan is a clear statement and intention to do better for our children, youth, families, staff and community. We strive to create an organizational culture that is safe, accepting and inclusive, in which individuals are treated with respect and dignity, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status or different abilities.
We observe a moment of silence to honour those who have led lives of service; those who have stood up for social and economic justice, have sacrificed so that we may be here, have confronted and dismantled oppressive practices and institutions and have built affirming and equitable examples to inspire us all.
You who stood against economic exploitation, homophobia, racism, gender discrimination, religious bigotry and other oppressive forces; we stand on your sturdy, courageous shoulders.
We thank you. We honour you.

Make a DonationWe must acknowledge
BGC Ottawa acknowledges that our work spans many Territories and Treaty areas and we are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us and the youth that continuously inspire us in the work that we do. BGC Ottawa's mission statement is to provide safe, supportive places where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life. We recognize that these values are impossible to attain without the ongoing guidance and partnerships with Indigenous peoples.
